Luca Ceruti

Luca Ceruti

Hi, my name is Luca Ceruti. I live in the tranquil seaside town of Langebaan, which has been my home for most of my life. I was born fourteen years ago in Monaco to parents who are passionate about the sea

I learnt to love the water from a very young age. I quickly took to surfing as well as canoeing. I represented my school at the SA Schools canoe sprints from the age of eight, always returning home with a medal, and last year I won the U14 Victorix Ludorum title.

I enjoyed surfing and canoeing, but I was looking for something more! I heard about kitesurfing from my dad, when I was nine years old. He bought me a training kite with handles, but soon added on a bar. At the age of eleven I started formal kite lessons with Dimitri, owner of Windchasers Kite School

I could get up and ride to my left. I stopped for a year and then carried on with Dimitri.

At the age of 12, Dimitri helped me to get kitesurfing again and then when I could ride on my own my dad rewarded me with an 8m kite. As I got better I realised that I could jump. When this happened the addiction kicked in! Now, when I go kite boarding I just always want to fly higher. A massive advantage I have is that I kite with my buddies and I have made friends with instructors. This is always fun and rewarding as we learn from each other.

In 2016 I entered the Downwind Dash and was the youngest person to finish. One hundred and fifty people entered and only seventy nine finished, due to 45 knots of wind. I placed 35th out of 79.

My aim is to enter Red Bull King of the Air before I am 18 years old. It is a challenge that I feel I can rise up to.

In the future I would like to become an instructor, enter competitions and also learn more about the manufacturing of kites and boards.
